Germany's Packaging Implementation Act (VerpackDG) replaces the Packaging Act and aligns German law with the PPWR. It is set to apply from 12 August 2026.
On 11 June 2026, the German Bundestag adopted Germany’s Packaging Implementation Act (VerpackDG). It replaces the previous Packaging Act (VerpackG) and is set to apply at the same time as the PPWR, on 12 August 2026.
As an EU regulation, the PPWR is directly applicable. The VerpackDG governs what the Member States have to shape themselves, above all extended producer responsibility: registration, participation in a compliance scheme and enforcement.
For the conformity of packaging, i.e. substance restrictions, technical documentation and the declaration of conformity, the PPWR itself remains authoritative. The VerpackDG does not change the obligations of manufacturers and suppliers.
Our tip: review your registration and compliance scheme participation alongside your supplier requests. The material and weight data you need for this is best requested in one go.
