Deadline
The EU Packaging Regulation has applied since 12 August 2026. What must now be in place for every packaging placed on the market.
The day has come: Regulation (EU) 2025/40 applies. From now on, every packaging placed on the market must meet the requirements of the PPWR.
What applies from today:
- PFAS limits for packaging in contact with food and the heavy metal limit of 100 mg/kg for all packaging (Art. 5)
- Conformity assessment, technical documentation and EU declaration of conformity before placing on the market (Art. 15, Annex VII and VIII)
- Identification number of the packaging and the manufacturer’s contact details
- Suppliers’ information obligation (Art. 16)
- Presenting the documents within 10 days at the request of an authority, and keeping them for 5 years, 10 years for reusable packaging
Goods placed on the market before the deadline may continue to be sold. What matters is the date of placing on the market, not the production date.
If you have not yet completed your supplier requests, start now with the packaging that will be placed on the market next, and document gaps per item.
