12 August 2026 was only the beginning. An overview of the next PPWR deadlines and the data you should already be requesting today.
The substance restrictions and the declaration of conformity have applied since August. Further obligations will follow over the coming years, and most of them depend on data you will again have to obtain from your suppliers.
Material labelling (Art. 12): Packaging will carry harmonised labelling of its material composition, at the earliest from 12 August 2028 or 24 months after the Commission’s implementing act, whichever is later. This implementing act is still pending, so the deadline is likely to move.
Recyclability (Art. 6): From 1 January 2030, packaging must reach at least recyclability performance grade C. The Commission will set the criteria in delegated acts by early 2028. From 2038, only grades A and B will be permitted.
Recycled content (Art. 7): Also from 2030, plastic packaging needs minimum shares of recycled content, such as 30% for contact-sensitive PET packaging and 10% for other contact-sensitive plastic packaging.
Minimisation (Art. 10): From 2030, weight and volume must be kept to the functional minimum, and this must be demonstrated in the technical documentation.
Our advice: request material structure, recycled content and recycling-relevant design data today. Then you will have them when the deadlines arrive.
